Twenty First Anniversary of Kidney/Pancreas Transplant

“Always laugh when you can, it is cheap medicine.” George Gordon Byron

Today, July 2, 2015 Dori Gilbert is celebrating the twenty-first anniversary of her Kidney/Pancreas transplant. 21 years ago we were both going thru some very tough times while she was waiting for that transplant. Humor helped us cope with those tough times. finding something to laugh at made the pain a little less, lessened the stress of wondering will she ever get her transplant, and gave hope that she would get her transplant.

Modern medicine saved Dori, Laughter gave her hope.

Please consider becoming an Organ and Tissue donor and save lives, please share humor with other and uplift lives with levity.

Laughing at the Winter Blues

“Laughter is the sun that drives winter from the human face.” Victor Hugo

Fall and winter can be depressing if you are not carefull. The days are shorter, It’s dark when you wake up and dark before you get off from work. The chilli overcast days and cold nights tend to keep us from getting outside and exercising, preventing us from getting enough vitamin D. According to the Mayo Clinic, “Vitamin D3 is synthesized by humans in the skin when it is exposed to ultraviolet B (UVB) rays from sunlight.” This is important because there are some studies linking Vitamin D deficiency to depression. This is why it is important to maintain your sense of humor and laugh often to help improve your mood. In an article in  Psychology Today entitled “Happily Ever After” it talks about how laughter may make you healthier and happier.

Seasonal Affective disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that affects some people during the winter months which some experts think is caused by lack of sunlight. Some experts believe that laughter can help improve ones disposition suffering from SAD. According to a post on Dr. Kataria’s website www.laughteryoga.org laughter “helps us to raise serotonin level, which is very important for fighting our seasonal blues.

What is Serotonin? Serotonin is a chemical produced by the brain that functions as a neurotransmitter. Low serotonin levels are associated with mood disorders, particularly depression.

The dark cold winter months are a good time to watch your favorite comedies to help you produce more serotonin to fight the winter blues.

Laugh With Not At

its better to laugh with someone than to laugh at someone. I’m not perfect I occasionally catch myself laughing at someone, but then I realize how would I feel if someone was laughing at me. I would feel embarrassed, I would get defensive and my self-esteem would be lower.

Laughing with someone can help strengthen your relationship with that person. when you laugh with someone you create a bond with them. You are in agreement and you are sharing a moment together.

So remember don’t laugh at, laugh with.
